Artistic career

Granddaughter and daughter of painters/engravers, Alegre Esteve is born in Rome and begins her career with a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Fernando, extending later her training to Engraving, Theory of Art, and Lithography on Plank and on Stone (Museo del Prado, Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Fundación Pilar y Joan Miró in Palma de Mallorca, Casa de la Moneda in Madrid).

Co-founder of the painters collective Gerra, with which she cooperates and exhibits her paintings until dissolution of the group, she works in the field of design, combining her activity as a high school teacher of drawing with her dedication to painting, a dedication she continues today.

Since the first exhibition within the Grupo Gerra in the year 1982 (Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria), she exhibits later her works, both individually and collectively at different galleries and entities (Fundación Joan Miró. Barcelona; Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, Bilbao; Colegio de Arquitectos de Murcia; Ateneo de Madrid; Museo Nacional de Albacete; Instituto Español. Paris; Ateneo de Sevilla; Circulo de Bellas Artes, Madrid). In 2012, at the Sala Borbón Lorenzana of the Library of Castilla la Mancha, in Toledo, she presented a large sample of her actual line of work, collected under the name of “The Colour We Forgot”.

But, in addition and more permanently, a part of her work can be seen in different museums and collections (Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid; Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid; Ateneo Científico, Artístico y Literario, Madrid; Museo Postal y Telegráfico, Madrid; Fundación Joan Miró, Palma de Mallorca; Instituto Español, París; Museo Nacional de Albacete; Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria), as well in some publications, such as “Rosa cúbica”, a poetry magazine in Barcelona, or “Batik”, an art magazine, also in Barcelona.

She got the first prize “Internazionale INA per la pittura” in Milan, silver medal in drawing and painting in “Pintura Joven. Correo Catalán-Iberia” Barcelona, and “Certamen nacional de Pintura” Luarca, Asturias, respectively, as well as a finalist in “XXII Premi Internacional Joan Miró de Dibuix”, Barcelona.
